A Central Kentucky soldier was killed on June 19, 2007, in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.
The Army said Sergeant 1st Class Willam Zapfe from Meade County, was killed.
Zapfe was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based out of Ft. Stewart, Ga.
Including Zapfe, 58 service members with hometowns in Kentucky have died in the Iraq war.
Nearly 200 troops based at Ft. Campbell have been killed in the conflict, most of them from the 101st Airborne Division.
