A former Cumberland County clerk spent some time in jail on June 25, 2007, after being arrested on theft charges.
Forty-seven-year-old Lynne Groce was arrested just before noon and taken to the Adair County Jail.
Groce is charged with two counts of abuse of public trust, greater than $10,000, but less than $100,000 and five counts of abuse of public trust.
A 2005 state audit of the clerk’s office was suspicious enough to prompt a review of the 2006 records. The review showed there were more than $26,000 in undeposited receipts between January 1, 2005, and August 31, 2006.
More than $16,000 was personally withheld by the clerk.
The findings were turned over to the Kentucky State Police, who made the arrest.
