I-65 Bus Crash Follow-Up

Now two people are dead after a bus crashed on I-65 on June 25, 2007.

Driver of the tour bus Abraham Parker died on June 26, at Vanderbilt Hospital. Parker’s death brings the toll to two in the crash that injured more than 60 family members traveling home to Alabama from a family reunion.

Seventy-one-year-old Carrie Walton died at the scene on June 25, when she was ejected from the bus.

A child remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt and 14 others are hospitalized in Nashville and Bowling Green.

A preliminary investigation found the driver fell asleep at the wheel causing the bus to run off I-65 and hit an overpass support.

Industry and safety experts said the bus was likely carrying more people than it was designed to carry.

Trooper Steve Pavey said the number of people on the bus, as well as the vehicle’s speed will be part of the investigation and reconstruction of the wreck.
