Burned Bones Found By Hikers in Laurel Co.

Police in Laurel County have identified the gender of the remains found in a barrel on June 25, 2007.

Police said whoever burned them and a truck found nearby, were trying to cover up a crime.

Kentucky’s forensic anthropologist said the remains are that of a male and now the focus is on who was murdered and why.

“We do have some leads. We’ve been getting some information and rumors in the past, and everything in this - a lot of things in this case are leaning toward that information we are getting,” said Detective Charlie Loomis, with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department.

Police said they’re getting calls from people who think they know who the victim is. They do have a suspect, but no arrests have yet been made.
