Wednesday they raised money for the state by holding a bake sale.

The event comes one day after Governor Steve Beshear proposed his ideas for fixing Kentucky's $1.5-billion shortfall.

Groups like Kentuckians for the Commonwealth say events like this can help plug the hole in the budget, one muffin at a time.

"We're going to be having bake sales across the state," says Jerry Moody. "So we're going to do everything that we can. We're not sure. I think that this is the first time anybody has actually tried to use bake sales to save the budget."

KFTC says they are also pushing House Bill 13, which calls for tax reform.

They say Kentucky's tax code places an unfair burden on the lower to middle classes, while benefiting the wealthy.

Tuesday night Governor Beshear proposed expanding gambling to get Kentucky back in the black.
