A prosecutor said she’ll seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing a small town Kentucky police chief.
James Barnett appeared in Powell County Circuit on July 3, 2007, to answer the indictment of capital murder. He’s charged with killing Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy by shooting him from the back of a squad car.
Barnett’s court-appointed attorneys entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf. Several members of the Barnett and Lacy families appeared in court. The police chief’s brother, Garland Lacy served as courtroom chaplain.
Afterwards Garland Lacy said if Barnett is put to death he’ll have no one to blame but himself.
