Girl talk is something most women would say gets them through the day .

Discussing problems with friends is something all of us have been taught to do to help us feel better. However, a new study shows too much talk could be unhealthy.

Researchers at the University of Missouri find discussing problems too much could cause anxiety and depression in girls.

Katie Goodwin is a senior at Bowling Green High School.

"I have three friends that I'm really close with," Goodwin said.

Katie said they talk about everything, including their problems.

"One of my friends just got her license, boys, school starting up, clothes-everything. I feel like I can vent to them and they can vent to me whenever they need to," Goodwin admitted.

"The fact they they have an outlet to let out frustrations is really important instead of bottling it up," Katie's Mom, Olivia Perdue, said.

Katie's mom said she disagrees with the new study and thinks having friends to confide in is an asset.

"It's something that I really want her as a child and as an adult to invest in because friendship is important and makes a big difference in your life," Perdue explained.

In fact, Olivia said friendships have an enormous impact in our lives and it's the friends we choose that could be unhealthy.

But she's not worried about Katie's choice of friends.

"I think most of her friends would come to me or someone that would help her," Perdue assured.

"I think my friends know me. I feel like I can talk to them and they'll tell me what they think about the situation and stuff," Goodwin said.

And if her friends don't have the answer for everything, Katie said she can always talk to her mom.

"I can confide in her in certain situations," Goodwin said.

"Overall I think we're a good mom and daughter team," Perdue added.
