After one felony indictment of tampering with physical evidence, and two misdemeanor indictments on official misconduct, Mayor Carter tells WBKO the investigation into possible abuse of power comes from a political vendetta against him.
Sources tell us the grand jury investigation stems from allegations the mayor told police officers to stop making so many arrests, something the mayor says is not true. The mayor says he tells officers to do their duty.
Several police officers were required to testify before a Monroe County Grand Jury on Monday. We asked Mayor Carter if their jobs would be in danger for testifying; he told us no, as long as they were doing their jobs. He added though, that since the budget is tight, they may have to look into cutting some jobs after all.
