Leading Democrat Plans to Censure President Bush

A leading Senate Democrat has opened up another front against the Bush administration .

Russ Feingold of Wis. wants to censure President Bush himself. Feingold plans to introduce two censure resolutions condemning the president and his administration.

Censure number one will address Iraq and number two will deal with the alleged abuse of power, such as warrantless wiretapping against suspected terrorists.

"The administration has assaulted the Constitution. We need to have on the historical record some kind of indication that what has happened here is disastrous. Somehow we have to address that and I think it's a good time to begin that process," Feingold said.

"I think it's safe to say Russ Feingold is not a fan of George Bush. I think that's the best way to sum that up," Minority Leader Mitch McConnell responded.

An attempt in 2006 by Feingold to censure Bush over the warrantless spying program attracted only three co-sponsors.

A White House spokesman said they realize that Senator Feingold does not care much for the president's policies.
