Most government offices and private industry were closed on July 5 for an extension of the July 4 holiday, but that list doesn't include most restaurants and service-oriented businesses.

Police departments, fire fighters, and even TV stations remained fully or partially staffed.

"It's ok, I'm greedy, I want the money," said Tricia Flannery, a six-year veteran of Bowling Green's Campbell Lane Sonic location.

"We depend on the weather and the forecast; if we know it's gonna be busy then it's all hands on deck and everybody works," said Jeff Fields of Tender Touch AutoWash.
