A former western Kentucky high school basketball coach and teacher has pleaded guilty to doctor shopping.

Kentucky State Police say 36-year-old former Caldwell County coach Michael Fraliex of Fredonia pleaded guilty Thursday to six counts of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraudulent means.

The former Western Kentucky University player was arrested 14 months ago in the case. Police said a doctor had reported suspicions that Fraliex might be obtaining hydrocodone pills from multiple physicians.

Police said as a condition of Fraliex's plea Thursday in Lyon County Circuit Court, he will serve 30 days in jail and have a 10-year sentence deferred for five years. He will also permanently surrender his teaching certificate.
