By the end of June many "low-income" senior residents of Warren County may not receive their usual box of food each month.

The Housing Authority of Bowling Green continues their never-ending search for an organization to help distribute food and to make sure no Warren County residents are left hungry.

"Kentucky ranks 5th in the nation in poverty and we have right now 421 boxes of food that could be delivered to some of our seniors."

Project Manager Darla Lash of the Bowling Green Housing Authority says the Department of Agriculture will suspend distribution of The Commodity Supplemental Food Program if no organization is willing take the responsibility.

"This program is for seniors 60 years of age and older who are income eligible."

A Federal program has tripled the amount of food it provides for low-income residents in Warren County. With only a few volunteers to distribute the food Lash says residents may not receive the proper nutrition their bodies need.

"Sometimes they eat a hot or bologna sandwich everyday but that is not keeping them healthy so with this program we have some juice some milk."

Regional Distributor, the "Feeding America" Program needs an organization willing to store and distribute in Warren County otherwise the USDA will not continue to supply the food without proper a contract.

Lash says even though the search is still on she hopes the right organization will soon come forward.

"I know people want to help, they want to help and if we can just find the right organization to take this one it will be a blessing for us.
