Testing demands are putting the state's crime lab behind.
Major Wayne Mayfield said the Kentucky State Police crime lab needs 12 to 15 more analysts to meet testing demand, particularly in DNA analysis.
About 135 Kentucky State Police crime lab scientists and support staff analyze evidence from more than 50,000 cases annually.
Those in the business also say the depiction of crime scene investigations on television shows is not exactly accurate.
Mayfield said the growing backlog in DNA testing section creates a six-month waiting period.
State police continue to push for a new crime lab facility in western Kentucky
