House Approves Energy Bill

The state House passes an energy bill that could bring out-of-state companies to Kentucky.

Under the legislation, companies building coal-gasification plants would be afforded millions of dollars in tax breaks.

St. Louis based company Peabody is considering building a $3-billion coal plant here, which could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

If approved, the measure also would provide financial incentives for any other qualifying companies that build alternative fuel facilities.

The measure now goes to the Senate, where legislators expect it to pass easily.
