Japanese Students Visit Bowling Green

Bowling Green has some special guests in town this week. Students from our sister city, Kawanishi, Japan, are in town to experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Bowling Green.

Fourteen-year-old Misaki Mori is half a world away from home.

"I have been speaking English for only two years so I can speak English very little," she said.

She's one of five high school girls, ages 14-15, visiting Bowling Green.

"Hmm, Bowling Green; people are very friendly and the food is very nice," Mori said with a smile.

The girls live with host families who show them around town. Today's itinerary included meeting Mayor Elaine Walker. Mori says she especially enjoyed the Farmers Market.

"There are very fresh oranges and vegetables and people said hello to me," said Mori.

Others were taken aback by our version of Japanese food when they had dinner at Shogun.

"In Japan we not, stir-fry our cucumber. I try to eat it and it’s very delicious!" laughed Megumi Noshita.

The students say goodbye Sunday when they return to Kawanishi, but some say they'd like to return to Bowling Green for higher education.

"My favorite place is Western Kentucky University," said Noshita.

Until then, they're using that enthusiasm to take advantage of all Bowling Green has to offer.

The students arrived in Bowling Green Friday and leave Sunday.

They've packed a lot into their week, including a tour of Western's campus, the Corvette Museum and Mammoth Cave. They've also sat in on classes at Bowling Green High School.
