Rival Teams Break Bread Together

A spaghetti dinner brings together two rival high school football teams.

Before the Warren East Raiders and Greenwood Gators hit the gridiron, the two teams shared a meal and an awards ceremony on Aug. 23.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted the "Champion's Dinner."
The event recognizes one athlete from each team that upholds certain standards.

The first recipients of the award, Warren East's Demetric Ray and Greenwood High School's Nathan Riley, are described as leaders on-and-off the field and are also very active in the community.

"It's a great thing to have kids that are not only good athletes, but they behave at school and in the community. And there's a trust that you can let them go out in the school body or in the community to let them be the young men you want them to be," said Mark Nelson, Greenwood High School's football coach.

Both teams' coaches say they hope the "Champion's Dinner" will become an annual event.
