Restaurant only alcohol sales will continue on the banks of Lake Cumberland.

Burnside residents went to the polls on Aug. 28 and voted 227-to-104 to keep the sales in place.

Three years ago, voters approved a referendum that some say not only added nearly a half dozen new restaurants, but greatly improved the economic landscape of the only incorporated city on the lake.

But not all are in favor of the sale.

"We feel very confident that the citizens of Burnside have seen a lot of positive results the last three years with the money and taxes we've seen from the restaurant referendum," explained Jim Rasnick, who voted to keep alcohol sales.

"I'm a minister here. I couldn't vote any other way," said Joe Burt Muse, who voted against the sale of alcohol.

When voters approved liquor by the drink in 2004, there wasn't a restaurant that fit the seating requirement to serve alcohol.

The city annexed several pieces of land, including a marina, so that it is a restaurant that could sell alcoholic drinks.
