Highway Commissioner Wants Hearing Commission Stopped

Kentucky's state highway commissioner tries to stop the Executive Branch Ethics Commission from conducting a hearing.

The hearing is on allegations that Marc Williams violated the state's ethics code by improperly funneling business to an engineering firm.

Williams has requested a temporary injunction to stop the hearing.

In a lawsuit filed Sept. 11 against the commission, Williams said a hearing this month could hurt him in a criminal investigation being conducted by Attorney General Greg Stumbo's office.

He said he would have to choose between invoking his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination and run the risk of aiding the criminal investigation.
