The City of Bowling Green and Warren County's government are teaming up to offer local residents a chance to recycle discarded tires for free.
The Tire Amnesty program will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, September 2 through Saturday, September 4 at the Old Quick Lincoln Mercury Building. It will also be available the next weekend at the same hours, from Sept. 9-11 at the KYDOT Highway Garage on KY 884 (Three Springs Road).
The program offers free disposal and recycling of old and discarded tires, objects that often end up in illegal dumpsites and can pose a health hazard as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
"We've had less of a problem in the last few years than we've had in the past. But the problems we do have now are significant," says Stan Reagan, Warren County's Community Service Coordinator.
The first Tire Amnesty program in 1998 netted nearly 75,000 used tires.
