14 year old pony Matt had an eventful weekend.

Today he is getting some rest and relaxation, and enjoying some snacks.

The treat may taste even better than usual, because this was Matt's situation early Saturday morning.

While grazing in the field a sinkhole collapsed, taking him with it, 30 feet down.

Miraculously, he wasn't injured and his owner is calling it just that.

"It was, It was a miracle because whenever we had people doing the excavation and all, Matt is not a big fan of men, He is usually handled by the girls, the younger girls on the farm, so we were kind of keeping an eye on him the whole time," owner Amanda Kohnen said.

Jason Cole owns the land with his sister and he says that sinkholes aren't something you can plan for.

"Any planning that you do would be more of after the situation has occurred. There's not really pro-active planning that i know of," he said.

Plano Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Greathouse says it was the hardest sinkhole rescue he has seen in 11 years because of the size of the hole.

"Then we could see down in there and was about thirty foot deep but where the horse was actually at was probably about 14 feet in diameter where he was, then it coned up to about an eight foot opening at the top," he said.

Kohnen says she and Cole plan to put a fence up around the sinkhole so no other horses will wind up in the situation they found Matt in.
