Nearly 6,600 Arlington Graves in Doubt

A Senate committee was held to examine mismanagement at the nation's most hallowed burial place for troops killed during war.

Senators grilled the two men who used to run the Arlington Cemetery after a scandal involving hundreds of mismarked graves erupted last month.

Cemetery officials estimated that 211 graves were misidentified, mismarked, or mislocated at the historic cemetery.

It is now feared that problem could be much worse. Up to 6,600 graves may be unmarked, improperly marked, or mislabeled on the cemetery's maps.

The former superintendent and his deputy testified before the committee. Both were forced to retire after the shocking discovery.
