Airline Service in BG: "We Are the Closest We've Ever Been"

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- A meeting earlier this week showed Bowling Green is closest its been to getting commercial airline service.

Airport Manager Rob Barnett said that again Friday.

He is working on a daily basis with lawmakers in our area to make this possible.

Some of the possible airlines and destinations include American and United to cities like Chicago or maybe Atlanta.

He says this area is in great need of air service.

"We are actually sitting in the largest under served area in the southern part of the United States, as it relates to air carrier service. With Interstate 65 as busy as it is, and with our community continuing to grow, we know there is a need for air service in our community," said Bowling Green Warren County Regional Airport Manager Rob Barnett.

Barnett said this is an unproven market, so they have to put together a risk mitigation plan.

Lawmakers hope to allocate about $750,000 in the state budget for the airport to help secure an airline here.
