Bowling Green, Ky. (WBKO) -- Bowling Green Municipal Utilities has received several phone calls from customers regarding a phone scam. Scammers seem to be targeting commercial businesses in the service area.
Most customers reporting the scam state that the caller ID says, "Boonville, MO".
Scammers are identifying themselves as BGMU and asking for payment to avoid disconnection via money orders or wire transfers.
BGMU asks customers to please take note of the following to avoid being scammed:
- BGMU bills, late notices, and disconnection information are relayed to customers via the U.S. postal service.
- If you are contacted by phone and question the validity of the person you are speaking with, please call BGMU's office at (270) 782-1200 to verify the nature of the call.
- BGMU does not accept wired money, nor do they call customers regarding disconnection.
