They're called "Man's Best Friend," and friends don't let friends walk alone.

On Saturday, planes were not the focus of the Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport. Instead, it was friends helping friends out.

"I brought my dog out. This is his favorite day of the year, he loves to be around other dogs. We like to support the humane society," says 5K participant Paula Hayes.

Hundreds of dogs and their owners came out to help other canines who are staying at the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society find a new, loving home.

"Dogs like Max need a home, and it's much better to adopt than to buy. All these wonderful dogs out here in the yellow bandannas need a home," says Shannon Gadd.

"This event is just what I consider a little piece of heaven - with all the dogs and people. They just know the day is all about them," says 5K sponsor Rosemary Hotaling.

The main event is the 5K walk. It's a chance for pooches that are up for adoption to build a relationship with people looking for that loving companion.

"There's so many nice dogs out there that need homes. All the dogs we have, have always been rescued from shelters," says Dan O'Brien, a 5K participant.

"I know how much you pamper your own dog, and you love your dog so much. So, just giving that option to another dog is nice," says 5K participant Cindy Casana.

"A friend had Tucker, and was going to get rid of him. He needed a home, so we took him," says Hayes.

Organizers say the event is a success year after year.

"Even the last two years, which were cold, windy, and rainy, we still had a fantastic turnout. You know the love is here in this community," says Hotaling.

That love helped eight of the 35 dogs in this year's walk find a home.

Organizers say eight dogs were adopted in last year's event.
