Dozens of employees are losing their jobs at a Lexington plant that manufactures body armor.
Fayette County Judge-Executive Jon Larson says information he received indicated Ceradyne workers were being told of the layoffs early this week and that they're expected to be effective June 10.
The Lexington Herald-Leader said severance packages are being provided. The layoffs affect 93 employees.
Ceradyne's parent, 3M, filed notice of the layoffs Monday under the worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. 3M said the layoff is necessary because of a downturn in the company's body armor business as a result of reduced funding for body armor from the Defense Department.
