Bowling Green Chik-fil-A Gets Big Reactions After 'Appreciation Day'

Updated: Wed 9:59 PM, Aug 01, 2012

Members from all over the community showed their support for Chik-fil-A today after owner Truett Cathy announced his stance that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Several customers came with the same opinion.

"This is primarily not about Chik-fil-A, this is about the free speech benefits that we have had since this country began," says Chik-fil-A suppoert Frank Buno.

"We need to be able to speak on it at least without ridicule and without anybody condemning us for it," says Larry Heron, who also supports Chik-fil-A.

A wave of supporters came in for an early lunch. Not only did they wait in line outside the fast-food chain, they waited in lines just to find parking spaces. Manager, Andy Robinson says while he's thankful for the crowd, it's most important to serve all guests-- no matter what they believe.

"We love all of our guest and we just want to serve them with honor and dignity," Robinson says.

Molly Kerby, an assistant professor at WKU is an active member of the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender community here in Bowling Green. A petition has been started in favor to kick Chik-fil-A off the WKU campus.

"I'm all in favor of Chik-fil-A being kicked off our campus. I think that our administration has been really good to the lgbt community and allowing Chik-fil-A with their attitude is just not something that we support on our campus. I mean, I don't mean to speak for everybody, but the administration has been very supportive and I have a feeling that they'll be supportive in this one too."
