The American Planning Association designates Bowling Green's Fountain Square one of top ten Great Public Spaces for 2010.

Mayor Elaine Walker and Warren County Judge Executive Mike Buchanan accepted the award on behalf of the Bowling Green community.

Great Places in America looks for unique and authentic characteristics found in neighborhoods, public spaces, and streets.

Tim Houston of the Warren County Planning Commission says the award helps the city grow.

"The Planning Options with the growth of Bowling Green have pulled together and now we're trying to set growth in the right direction for the next thirty years. The elected officials as well as the special groups the home builders and those involved with development have really brought Bowling Green to the forefront," said Tim Houston.

Other cities on the list include Boston, New York City, and San Francisco.

I agree John. If Bowling Green doesnt start producing more daytime places and activities and entertainment for the night scene(outside of restaurants which close too early anyways) Bowling Green is going to become the next Morgantown- with everyone but the old and workers getting the hell out of town. This city is notorious around the world as being boring and "safe". International parents send there kids to WKU and Bowling Green for "less distractions" knowing they cant drive around town, and nothing is near campus to keep them from not studying. That's a little embarrassing.

FS is a nice little park and all...but top 10 in the nation? I'm not trying to just be negative, but I think the American Planning Association needs to get out a little more...
