"I'm not aware of any service that have been cut. It's simply finding where there are ways to do things more efficiently," says Williams.

BOWLING GREEN / WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - The first reading by the Bowling Green City Commission of the budget for the next fiscal year comes with some change. An aging public safety radio system will be replaced, which comes with a hefty price tag.

"We were looking at sticker shock when we were first presented with the price. Through some negotiations, and some give and take, its got it down to an affordable figure," says Commissioner Rick Williams.

The money spent will better serve area emergency personnel at times when the public may need them the most.

"It's an old system. It's still an analog system so we are moving to digital and upgrading from a single tower system to a four tower system," says Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.

Despite the added spending, the City of Bowling Green will not increase taxes for the 7th straight year.

"It's an objective to this particular commission to try and avoid raising taxes anyway that we can," says Williams.

City leaders say they take pride in keeping taxes low. Saving money all comes down to crunching the numbers.

"We as a commission emphasize to city staff to be very careful in their expenditures and we've been able to do that without any significant impact on our budget," says Wilkerson

"I'm not aware of any service that have been cut. It's simply finding where there are ways to do things more efficiently," says Williams.

The city commission says they will continue to hold government in line, for the best possible value to tax payers.

We did check in with Warren County for an update on their budget. Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon says they are in the final stages and hope to have the first reading this Friday. They say there will be no tax increases to county residents.
