Burnout Event Causes Controversy in Eastern Kentucky

WHITESBURG, Ky. (AP) -- The smoke rising off the police officer's spinning tires at a burnout event in eastern Kentucky was supposed to be the highlight of the show.

Instead, it led to a complaint about the misuse of city property.

The complaint about the Jenkins Cruise In and Burnout event prompted the mayor to forbid any similar occurrence in the future.

Jenkins City Manager Todd DePriest said the officer in the cruiser had put a set of old tires on the police cruiser right before the burnout so he wouldn't damage the vehicle's new tires.
