Caverna High and Middle Schools Burglarized

Caverna High and Middle Schools in Horse Cave were the site of a burglary early Sunday morning.

It's two separate schools, but they're in one building.

Police say a white man broke into the building and took different items.

"Stolen was a laptop computer, a digital camera, and a small amount of petty cash they had on hand," said Horse Cave Police Chief Alan Shirley.

Police say a few doors and a window were busted.

After an incident like this, school officials say security is a priority.

"Things like this unfortunately happen. We do the best we can. I have kids that go here, my children go here. So, security of the students is always the first thing we look at. In today's society, you never know what's going to happen, but we take all the steps necessary to keep everybody here as safe as possible," said Caverna High School Principal Brad Phipps.

Principal Phipps said he and custodians have been looking at locks, and into their camera system that has already caught several images of the suspect.

"We're trying to get in front of some issues, and that's why we're spending the time we're spending now going through and looking at, are there things that need to be replaced," said Phipps.

Phipps is also talking to police about having extra patrols at night and over breaks.

"I've been with Mr. Phipps today, and the middle school principal, talking some things through on what we can make better for the school," said Shirley.

While officials look to make the school even safer, unfortunately in this case, police don't have many leads.

Police are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
