Ceremony Held to Recognize Auburn Elementary for Blue Ribbon Award

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) -- Auburn Elementary received the honor of being a National Blue Ribbon School for 2013.

The award is given to schools based on overall academic excellence or progress in improving student academic achievement.

The school held a celebration ceremony Friday to formally recognize the accomplishment.

Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday was there to congratulate the school.

The principal says the faculty and students' hard work is how they got the honor.

"The fact is that there's only 45 schools in the state of Kentucky since 2003 when they actually revamped everything, and we were one of those 45. It's considered the highest honor that any public school can achieve," said David Ward, the principal of Auburn Elementary.

Auburn Elementary was one of five Kentucky public schools to be named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School.
