An accidental shooting has killed a 9-year-old boy in southern Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police said the victim's 11-year-old brother was handling a gun when it discharged and the younger boy was struck.

The incident occurred at a Wayne County home, four miles west of Monticello.

Trooper Don Trosper said in a news release that the preliminary investigation shows the shooting was an accident. The boys' names were not released.

The victim was pronounced dead at the Wayne County Hospital.
