LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton is urging Southern states to find new ways to cooperate as they try and find ways to expand research and development opportunities in the region.

Clinton spoke to the Southern Governors' Association as the group opened its annual meeting in downtown Little Rock. The group is focusing its annual meeting on accelerating the region's research and development network.

Clinton touted the success Arkansas and Kentucky have had in cutting the number of uninsured as examples of cooperation. He praised Arkansas' compromise Medicaid expansion, and the health insurance marketplace Kentucky has set up under the federal health law.
