It's a simple need that can mean life or death.
We're talking about food.
The United Way kicked off the "Feed The Need" food drive that helps feed hundreds in our community.
"When you see a family with children who need food it can be really break your heart," says Warren County Community Service Coordinator, Janet Holloway.
Holloway and other non-profits are looking forward to the "Feed The Need" food drive bringing in more items.
"Of course our fear is what if we have to turn people away," says Holloway.
Food pantry shelves here at Community Action are almost empty and it's much of the same tale at the Barren River Area Safe Space.
"During the holidays everyone donates, but that slows down and than food pantries really are in need."
The United Way began the larger-than-average food drive 4 years ago when they recognized the falling economy had taken away people's jobs and left them with empty stomachs.
"Sometimes all people need is food, if we could help a family survive a week by giving them a couple bites of food that's what we would like to do," says Lee Alcott, BRASS.
The "Feed The Need" drive will last through the second week of March.
"Anyone can get involved, you can set up a food drive at your company, your business your group and all the food you will collect will stay right there at your county," says Mandy Baker of United Way.
On March 16Th and 17Th the United Way and about 600 volunteers will hand out fliers and take in donations at local grocery stores.
