A criminal complaint has been filed against a Bowling Green man, because he shipped firearms overseas.

A local gun expert says selling and shipping firearms overseas may be easy, but getting caught is just as easy.

"When you're dealing with this type of thing, it's just a matter of time before they get caught with this. There are very serious penalties," said Guns N' More owner Claudis Walker.

Those are penalties Adam Bunger of Bowling Green may soon face for violations involving the shipment of firearms overseas. A criminal complaint says Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms first caught wind of the shipments when the Australian Federal Police asked them for help, and found firearm parts inside an Xbox. The package label identified the sender as John Smith from Bowling Green. ATF's investigation later revealed John Smith as Adam Bunger of Bowling Green. The complaint also says Bunger tried to send shipments with guns similar to the ones shown to the United Kingdom and Sweden. The serial numbers were obliterated form the guns, which walker says is a big no no in the firearms world.

"If somebody brings you a handgun and the serial number has been cut off of it, or something has been mechanically done to that gun to where it's not safe, just leave it alone," said Walker.

Walker says serial numbers are required to track every firearm in the U.S. and removing that number alone is a major federal offense, and shipping them across borders undocumented is yet another felony.

"Taking it against state lines is illegal for one thing, and out of the country is really big time illegal. That's the federal law on it. It could be easily took apart and shipped these guns," said Walker.

These offenses are so serious, there is actually a warning right at the top over every firearms transaction record that must be filled out when you purchase a gun.

Bunger is a co-owner of Artsy QR, an unrelated mobile graphics business in Bowling Green with his brother. Neither could be reached for comment.
