BENTON, Ky. (AP) -- A woman who once was involved with the man prosecutors say was responsible for a fatal dormitory fire at Murray State University in 1998 has testified in the man's trial.

Jessica Eveland testified Tuesday that she didn't recall accompanying Jerry Walker Jr. to Mayfield the day after the fire to see his dying grandmother, as Walker's attorney said during opening statements. The Paducah Sun reports Walker lowered and shook his head at Eveland's testimony.

Walker is charged with first-degree arson, second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault and 14 counts of wanton endangerment. His first trial on other charges associated with the incident ended in a hung jury in 2001.

Prosecutors are to continue calling witnesses Wednesday.

The fire resulted in the death of dorm resident Michael Minger.
