"Well the day of, my niece and nephew and his grandchildren were over and he got a call and his face got white and he started to shake, and I was like, 'What's going on? Are you having a heart attack or something?' And I didn't even know he had purchased a ticket so I was like, 'What house? What are you talking about?'" said Cassie Burke, the St. Jude Dream Home winner's daughter.
Mike Burke and his family drove from Shepherdsville today to see the dream home after first hearing the news that he won last week.
"The virtual tour didn't do it justice. It's beautiful," Cassie said.
They all looked around the house in awe of everything about it.
"Right now, the favorite room in the house is the kitchen area. I love kitchens. I don't do a lot of cooking, but I do a lot of eating. My wife does the cooking. But no, I enjoy the place. It's really a nice place, and just the whole area, it's really a beautiful place," said dream home winner, Mike Burke.
He said he has bought tickets for the last few years. This year he bought two, and he never expected he would win.
"It's something you dream about, you dream about it. When it came reality, I thanked God first and the family second. Called my wife. Took a few hours to get a hold of her, but when I did, same thing, she didn't believe me at first."
Now he might give the house to his daughter.
"It's a running joke that we would buy the ticket, I'd win the house and you (his daughter) would have a place to live when you get a job. So I'm always putting pressure on the Bowling Green area to find my daughter a job in occupational therapy. So it's up to Bowling Green now to see if we can stay," he said.
They are thinking things through with an accountant before making any final decisions about what to do with the house.
