FANCY FARM, Ky. (WBKO) -- Saturday's Fancy Farm Picnic saw a record crowd.
Organizers say at least five thousand people packed around a small pavilion in the catholic graves county community.
BBQ and political speeches, these two things make a lot of people turn out for the Fancy Farm Picnic.
Just like patrons plowing through a BBQ sandwich quickly, Sen. Mitch McConnell and democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes wasted no time calling out each other and more.
"What a huge crowd for Sen. McConnell's retirement party. Father, you sure know how to throw a party, the BBQ smells so good even Jesse Benton stopped holding nose," said Grimes.
"Jack Conway curses. Gov. Beshear drones on about Obamacare, and Alison Lundergan Grimes unveils her foreign policy," said McConnell.
The Fancy Farm picnic is one of the biggest events of the year in politics involving big crowds chanting for their favorite candidate.
"When it comes to giving Kentuckians a fighting chance at actually surviving by increasing the minimum wage, Mitch McConnell doesn't care," said Grimes.
"They know they need to force Obamacare on us. We know what we need to do to repeal it," said McConnell.
While McConnell and Grimes were both on the stage together, it wasn't a debate. As of right now, both camps have still yet to agree to debate each other.
