PRINCETON, Ky (WBKO) -- A man robbing a bank in Princeton Kentucky was killed by a police officer.

Kentucky State Police say just before 9:00 Friday morning, the suspect, James Hamm, 67, of Princeton walked into the Planters Bank with a stocking over his face.

Police say he was armed with a handgun.

The Princeton Police Department entered the bank, and Chief Don Weedman told Hamm to put the gun down.

Instead, police say Hamm turned towards the chief and fired.

Chief Weedman was not hit. He shot back and killed Hamm.

KSP is investigating, and Chief Weedman has been placed on paid, administration leave.

Police say this same bank was also robbed on Wednesday, but they have not said if Hamm is also the suspect in that robbery.
