A Warren county father is in jail tonight after police say he whipped his child and then locked him out of the house overnight.
"The father and son had a fight," says Ronnie Ward, Bowling Green Public Information Officer.
Police say it all began after school let out on Tuesday afternoon.
Ray Lawson allegedly got into a disagreement with his eleven year old son after the boy had gotten in trouble at school.
"The father pulled out an extension cord and beat the boy," says Officer Ward.
Reportedly Lawson whipped his son 8 times with an orange extension cord he kept behind the couch and than kicked him out of the house.
Authorities say over the next 17 hours, the child walked to the park and the nearby donut shop, which is open 24 hours.
"It was 27 degrees that night and he didnt have a jacket on, he had short sleeves on," says Officer Ward.
The Great American Donut Shop told us they saw the boy there early in the morning and that he had been there many times before.
Police say the child went to school around 8 am the next morning, without ever getting back inside his home.
The school notified police and arrested both father, Ray lawson and grandmother Alice Lawson who witnessed the abuse.
Denise Lambrianou of the Child Advocacy Center says there is currently no overnight shelter for children who have no where to go.
She advises children to look for the yellow safe spot stickers or call 911.
Ray Lawson is still in jail on a $10,000 dollar bond but Alice Lawson was released earlier today.
Police say the child and his 2 siblings are in protective custody.
