The Bowling Green Fire Department showed off their new pink shirts for breast cancer awareness tonight at the Annual Fire Prevention Week Festival.

Activities like fire demonstrations and fire truck tours gave an inside look into a firefighter's job.

Marlee Boeing with the Bowling Green Fire Department says the festival is a fun way to teach kids about safety.

She says, most importantly, people need to continually check their smoke detectors.

"So many people have smoke alarms and then they don't know whether they work or not. They don't replace the batteries when they should, so we really want to drive that point home. And then we also want to make sure that people have a plan in place so the whole family knows how to get out and know where to meet, and the kids especially know how to get out and call 911," she says.

National Fire Prevention week ended today.
