LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- The Louisville Zoo says a new zebra foal has been born there, the first in 13 years.
The 72-pound female Hartmann's mountain zebra foal was born January 18. Her mother is Morena, and her father is Gibbs. Mother and foal are doing well, and the zoo says the foal will be on exhibit to the public in coming weeks, weather permitting.
The zoo said in a statement that Hartmann's mountain zebras are listed as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
A naming contest will be held in the spring.
