Folks in downtown Franklin were spending the day checking out antique cars.

The antique car show has been an annual event in the square for more than 50 years.

The Festival on the Square has been around for eight years now.

Vendors had unique items for sale, and all kinds of food was available for those who went.

"The best part would be seeing all the old cars and the turnouts and how cars have progressed over the years and everything," said Jolynne May, whose been going to the car show since she was a child.

"The purpose is just to bring people to downtown Franklin. The merchants in Franklin are having sidewalk sale days, and it's just to get people down to our square. We have one of the most beautiful squares in south central Kentucky, and we'd love for people to come," said Steve Thurmond, the director of the Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce.

Thurmond said the event has continued to grow through the years -- showing its success of bringing more people downtown.
