LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A consortium of school districts in central and southern Kentucky has won a $40 million grant in the Race to the Top-District competition.
The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday, the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative is one of 16 winners in this latest round of Race to the Top grants, which focused on individual districts.
The grant will be used in 22 districts in central and southern Kentucky that have a total of more than 59,000 students in 112 schools. More than 60 percent of the students are from low-income families.
