19-year-old Shaylin McGuire couldn't believe it when she got the phone call from Opry Mills that she won their "Next Big Star Contest."

"Honestly, I was in shock. You hear about people screaming and jumping around and it's just like, I don't know. I couldn't say anything. I was like 'Are you serious? Really, you know, me?,'" says Shaylin McGuire.

Shaylin's prize was getting to open for Josh Turner at the reopening of the mall in Nashville.

"It was probably the most exiciting thing I've ever done. It's just something I wanted to do my entire life and being up there on stage and knowing I was opening for Josh Turner, I was just so excited," says Shaylin.

Shaylin's mom and other family members were also at the concert and couldn't be prouder.

"To see her up on stage and then Josh to come right after, it was very exciting," says Indy McGuire, Shaylin's mom.

Her dad says the family noticed Shaylin's talent from the time she was four and that her singing abilities really flourished as a teen.

"We knew she could sing because we got to hear her every night singing in the shower, sometimes so loud, we had to ask her to hold it down a little bit so we could hear the tv," says Tim McGuire, Shaylin's dad.

Shaylin's family was also surprised when they learned she had been writing songs on her own for years.

When Shaylin isn't performing, she says she enjoys going horse back riding and is an avid animal lover.

Shaylin says she hopes to become a big name country singer one day, but if that doesn't happen, she'll be happy and continue singing no matter what.
