Do you want to join in the fight against Heart Disease?

The annual 5K Heart Walk Run starts tomorrow at 8AM at Kereiakes Park.

Five year old Zoey and her family have dealt with Zoey's long battle with a congenital heart defect.

"She was 4lbs and 13 ounces and I never even got to hold her before they ripped her away,"says Venica Patton, mother of Zoey.

Zoey would have her first heart surgery when she was born, nd her mom Vencia prepared for the long path that lie ahead.

"Honestly i was devastated, I didn't know if we would ever get to bring her home,"says Patton.

But after 6 weeks Zoey was brought home but her battle with her heart defect was far from over.

Despite numerous birthdays spent in the hospital, and recovering from a stroke Zoey has become a survivor.

"Zoey had to learn how to stand up again, and walk, and dance. She's had to overcome a lot of things,"says Patton

While Heart Disease is the number one cause of death in adults the walk aims to break a stigma.

"Because people typically think of someone who is overweight and has smoked their whole lives, and the truth of the matter is 1 in 10 children will be born with heart defects,"says Michelle Alloway, Division Director of Heart Walk.

The goal tomorrow is to raise $75,000 to help those like Zoey.

"I have heart disease," says Zoey.

It's not to late to join Zoey in the fight against heart disease.

If you haven't registered, you can tomorrow before the walk.

The event is free, but donations will benefit the American Heart Association.
