Halloween Safety Tips

If you plan to take your children trick or treating this year, first responders have some tips for you to keep them safe.

They said go to familiar areas so you don't have to worry about where the candy is coming from.

Although they said it's not as common these days for people to poison candy, it's better to inspect it before letting your child eat it.

"You need to have some reflective. A lot of the costumes are dark colors and things like that, and if people drive down the streets they can't usually see you unless there's some type of reflective. Take a flashlight, and only go to places that you know," said Kendra Messenger, a paramedic.

Also, if you have a jack-o-lantern with a candle, make sure it's not where costumes could touch the flame.

Bowling Green City's website recommends you trick or treat between 4:00 and 7:00 PM.
