A central Kentucky woman has pleaded guilty to killing a toddler in her care.
The News-Enterprise reports 28-year-old Ashley N. Chapman entered the plea Wednesday to a murder charge in Hardin Circuit Court in the death of 2-year-old Layla Johnson.
Chapman said during the hearing that she had taken drugs, including Xanax, while the girl was in her care on Jan. 25. She said she can't remember all the events that transpired, but did recall that the girl fell and landed on her head on the hardwood floor. Chapman said she didn't seek medical treatment for the child, who died days later from a head injury.
Prosecutor Eric Carr said the victim's family agreed to the plea deal. Carr says he is recommending a 35-year sentence.
