RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) - Shelia Cook hopes her home operation will make an impact on her community, one family at time.

"Our needs are here and there is a big need in Logan County," says Sheila Cook.

Months ago, Cook collected clothes for a family in need. She reached out for help in the internet and donations began pouring in.

"I came home and there were six bags on my front porch waiting. I thought I knew this wasn't here when I left this morning," says Cook.

Now her porch is filled with beds, strollers and other household items. The upstairs of her home is filled with hundreds of pieces of clothing. Her operation to help one family is now reaching dozens across the county.

"First thing every morning when I get up between 3:30 and 4:00 is get on the computer, make the coffee and start seeing who needs what and we take it from there," says Cook.

Many families don't have the transportation to pick up their items, which is why Cook will often come to them.

"There are just so grateful and so thankful. They have some clothes for their kids, clothes for themselves, a mattress for a baby bed, a diaper bag they couldn't afford to use yet. It's just the little things," says Cook.

For an idea that started small and has now expanded to make an impact on dozens of families, we honor Shelia Cook as this week's Hometown Hero.
