A Hopkinsville police officer was arrested late Saturday night for driving under the influence.

39-year-old Sergeant John Thompson was arrested by a fellow officer around 11:30.

A police report says Thompson tried leaving the parking lot of The Eagles Club on Fort Campbell Boulevard when he ran into parking lot barriers.

The barriers got stuck under his vehicle.

After getting them out from under his vehicle he ran into a grassy mound.

Thompson has been suspended with pay.

He has been with the department since 1996.
